N. M. King, Sr., Scott Township, farmer, Section 25, P. O. Winterset, was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, July 25, 1802. In 1813, when he was about eleven years of age he moved with his parents to Mason County, Kentucky, where he lived until he was twenty-two years of age. He located in Menard County, formerly Sangamon County, Illinois in 1821. There he married Miss Jane Randles, daughter of John Randles, on April 8, 1829. She was born in Iredell County, North Carolina on July 8, 1811, and when eleven years of age she was taken to Kentucky where she was reared. They lived in Illinois until 1865, prior to their move to Madison County, Iowa, and located on 565 acres of land. They have four sons and three daughters, William, Nancy, Noah M., Ruah Evaline, Dulcina, Amberry, and Albert W. Mr. King died February 15, 1883, in his eighty-first year. His wife was past eighty-one when she died. He was a farmer all his life; In politics a Whig and later a Republican; and in religion, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Of their ten children, nine reached adult age. He and Abraham Lincoln worked by the day together, both enlisted in the same company in the Black Hawk War, and were warm friends all their lives. He is a Civil War Vet. Unknown-"Civil War Veteran" on Tombstone.
