Oakley "Okley" was the son of Nathaniel and Margaret Locklear McMillan. He married Ritty Bullard.
The following was taken from the Jul. 22, 1957 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Okley McMillan, 75, prominent farmer and businessman of Pembroke, route 1, was shot to death in his home about 10 p.m. Saturday. He died in Scotland Memorial hospital, Laurinburg, about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
Sheriff's officers arrested, Repete Clark, 31, who married McMillan's granddaughter, and charge him with the slaying. He is being held without bond in Robeson county jail.
Deputy Craig Sampson said his information was that Clark and his family were visiting in the McMillan home when an argument developed and McMillan ordered Clark to leave.
To enforce his order, the deputy said, McMillan got his shotgun but Clark wrested it from him and fired a shot that struck McMillan in the abdomen.
No date for an inquest was set but Coroner D.W. Biggs appointed a jury composed of Joe Franklin Oxendine, Leonard Godwin, Simeon Godwin, Simeon Oxendine, J. C. Oxendine and Harvey Bullard.
McMillan is survived only his wife. Funeral plans are incomplete but the rites are tentatively set for Wednesday afternoon.
