About "Old" John Busteed

'Old John Busteed came over from Tukesbury, a corporation town in Gloucester Shire, with his family, between the Sovereign's Rocks into the Habour of Oyster Haven near Kinsale some time before the Rebellion of Forty one [1641] and inhabited at Gorlmalire [Gortmolire] on the Black Water side near Mallow where had a copyhold. He brought over with him Five Sons & Two Daughters. The names of said sons was Giles, [Richard, William twins], John & Thomas. The names of said daughters he does not remember but that the oldest was married to Mr. Philip Paynes of Mallow & the other to Mr. John Brooks of Mallow.

Giles, the eldest son of old John Busteed, purchased Mountlong of a Serjeant & eight Soldiers of Oliver Cromwell's Army. William settled at Ballyororun in Tramekelly[sp?] afterwards removed to Black Water. Richard settled at Ballynure near Black Rock. John settled at Killingly, and Thomas died young. [Drawing of a Family Coat of Arms] [In Deo Spes Mea.] The Characters of the above four Brothers One of the was good at Home and Abroad; The Second was neither good at Home and not Abroad; The Third was good at Home and not Abroad; The Fourth was good Abroad and not at Home.

John second Brother came out of the Army & possessed the Estate of John on the Death of William eldest Son to John not Seized thereof.
