Obituary "An old and highly respected citizen of our county passed away in the death of John Neptune, Esq., which occurred at is residence in the Paw Paw district, Sunday morning last at 5 o'clock. Deceased was in his 84th* year and had long been in feeble health. The immediate cause of death was inflammation of the stomach. Mr. Neptune had been married and was the father of a large family of children. Nine of who survive him. His long and busy life was devoted principally to farming. He was devoted, consistent, and died cofident of an issue into the better land beyond death's dark river. A large concourse attended his remains to their resting place in the Neptune Graveyard on Monday afternoon. Peace to his ashes."

  • May be age or birth/death date discrepancy: Obituary says he died at age 84, but if he was born in 1756 and died in 1803, he would have been about 47 years old at death.

Spent a lot of his life in Allegheny County, Maryland. He shows on the Allegheny County census for 1800, 1810, and 1820.

In the census of 1800, he was listed as being over 45 years of age.
Son of William Neptune & Sarah Ann Spooner. Husband of Ruth Elizabeth Brown.

It's been said by two family researchers that John was buried on family property in the Hampshire County WV area (not in a formal cemetery).* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Nov 2 2022, 22:50:35 UTC
