Ole Trondsen Kjøster (Chester) immigrated in 1852 from his birth farm (Nord Kjørstad) in Valdres, Norway, to Wisconsin. In 1859, he ventured to Colorado Territory to try his luck in the newly opened gold fields there. From 1861-1865, Ole served in the Union forces of the Civil War as a member of the First Colorado Cavalry. Initially a Private, he was later promoted to the rank of Corporal. After he mustered out in November 1865, Ole returned to Wisconsin. It is he who provided immigrant passage for his parents, Trond Olsen Kjørstad and Inger Eriksdatter Revling, who came to Wisconsin from Valdres in 1866. In 1872, Ole married Ingrid Bergum, 1852-1938. Ultimately they lived and farmed near Osseo, WI. They had nine children.
