About Olga Catherine Christiansen

8 Jan 1953 The Gilgandra Weekly

WEDDING BELLS
CHRISTIANSEN -- JACKSON

St. Ambrose's Church of England, Gilgandra, was the scene of a very pretty
wedding at 5 p.m. on 27th December, the parties being Olga Catherine, youngest
daughter of Mrs. Jackson and the late Mr A. Jackson, of Gilgandra, and James,
only son of Mr. and Mrs, C. F. Christiansen, of "Claverton," Balladoran.
Bro. Arthur officiated at the service, whilst the church was beautifully
decorated for the occasion by Mrs. Frank Bensley, jnr.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Eric Jackson, wore a lovely
gown of magnolia satin, heavily trimmed with cornelli stitching, with a coronet
of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of white carnations, gladioli and dahlias,
and was made by Mrs. Wilmott, of Dubbo. The bridesmaids were Miss Beryl Jackson
(sister of the bride) and Miss June Harper, of Dubbo, who were frocked in white
organdi over taffeta and wore Juliet caps with circular veils. Their bouquets
were of deep red, carnations, gladioli and dahlias.

Mr. Barry Pritchard was best man and Mr. Jim Jackson (brother of the bride)
groomsman.

The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a dressing gown, and the bridegroom's
to the bride a gold wristlet watch, and to the bridesmaids pieces of pottery.

The reception was held in the C.W.A. Rooms, the guests being received by
Mrs. Jackson, who wore a green frock with black accessories and shoulder
spray of pink rosebuds. She was assisted by the bridegroom's mother, who
wore a fawn suit with black accessories and a Shoulder spray of pink carnations.
Catering arrangements were in the capable hands of Mrs Tribe, whilst Mr. Ray
Diggs acted as chairman.

Miss Dawn Collison presided at the piano, and following the toast of 'The
Queen", Mr. Biggs proposed the toast of "The Bride and Bridegroom", and added
that it was a great pleasure to do so, for he had known both since they were
children. In offering congratulations and best wishes
he also conveyed congratulations from the Legacy Group.

The bridegroom responded, and proposed the toast of "The Bridesmaids" to
which the best man responded.

The toast to "The Bride's Mother" was given by Mr J Morris, who said that
although Mrs. Jackson had reared her family under difficulties, she could feel
proud of them, and he knew they were proud of her. Her family came first
and next, consideration for others. In Sickness or in need, one always found
Mrs. Jackson there to see if she could render assistance.

Mr. E. Jackson responded on behalf of his mother, and thanked all for their
attendance.

The toast to "The Parents of the Bridegroom" was handled by Mr. W. A. Anderson,
who recalled when Mr. Christiansen first went to Balladoran district and how,
at the outbreak World War I he offered his services to his country and had served
with distinction, winning a medal. It was whilst overseas he met his bride, and
on his return he had secured one of the Claverton blocks. If Jim followed in
the footsteps of his parents he would have no regrets.

Mr. Christiansen thanked the speaker for his remarks and all for their
presence there that evening. His advice to newly weds was no matter what
difficulties may be experienced if you pull together you would win through.

Brother Arthur proposed the toast of "The Chairman" and took the
opportunity to offer beat wishes to the happy couple.

The nicely decorated wedding cake was then cut by the bride
and after the tables had been cleared, community singing and
dancing was indulged in until the departure of the newly weds by car
on their honeymoon.
