(son of Oliver Thornton and Mary Griswold). Born May 12, 1848, Des Moines, Iowa. Came to Utah 1852, John Wimmer company.
Married: Emeretta Davis Phillips February 15, 1873, Salt Lake City (daughter of Richard Phillips and Margaret Lucker of Toms River, New Jersey; pioneers 1861, Captain Martindale company). She was born December 25, 1854.

Mary Delcia born September 17, 1887, died infant;
Edmund Owen born December 14, 1888, married Alice Peterson;
Silvia Ann born September 5, 1893.
