Oliver Evans Thornton

(son of Oliver Thornton and Mary Griswold). Born May 12, 1848, Des Moines, Iowa. Came to Utah 1852, John Wimmer company.

   Married:	Emeretta Davis Phillips February 15, 1873, Salt Lake City (daughter of Richard Phillips and Margaret Lucker of Toms River, New Jersey; pioneers 1861, Captain Martindale company). She was born December 25, 1854.

   Their children:

           Oliver S. born October 29, 1873, died infant;

           Richard A. born February 6, 1875, died Infant;

           Retty May born May 25, 1877, married Thomas J. Crookston;

           Ira John born September 30, 1879, married Belle Norton;

           Alice Menety born October 15, 1882, married George Holman;

           Evy Elzety born December 15, 1884, married Thomas Wilson;

           Mary Delcia born September 17, 1887, died infant;

           Edmund Owen born December 14, 1888, married Alice Peterson;

           Silvia Ann born September 5, 1893.

Assisted in building the first canal across Provo Bench; assisted in building the first telegraph line; worked on Union Pacific Rail Road Member elders quorum. Farmer, fisherman and orchardist. Sources:
