Funeral services for Mrs. Opal McCarty, 97, Levelland will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 at College Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Merle Fulmer, Pastor, Lakeridge Baptist Church, Lubbock, officiating. Burial will follow in Earth Memorial Cemetery, Earth, Texas under direction of George Price Funeral Home.

Opal was born July 14, 1908 in Melrose, New Mexico. She married Delma Earl McCarty, Aug. 14, 1929 in Clovis, NM. He preceded her in death July 1, 1977. She was also preceded by a son, Macky McCarty, April 15, 2000.

She was retired from the Bounty Restaurant and a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. She taught the 3 & 4-year-old Sunday School class in Sudan for a number of years. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Smith, Levelland; daughter-in-law, Fran McCarty, Lubbock; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the J.C. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at South Plains College.
