About Orin Philip McCarty
From Viola Powers (great granddaughter of O.P. McCarty Sr.
My knowledge of the Barneys begins with Deborah, wife of OP Sr, and as far as I know, she was from Indianapolis. They lived there until they moved to Cincinnati. Mama and I drove to Indianapolis once to take the portrait of Elise Hasseloff ( my great grandmother Hugo) to the art museum for conservation. While we were there, we went to a very large, beautiful cemetery where the family plot is. There were six little markers for six little boys who died in infancy or early childhood. They were brothers of my grandfather; he also had one sister, Stella, a professor at Goucher College in Baltimore, and a brother who I believe was named Orin Philip. The brother died in early adulthood of "consumption " or tuberculosis. He came to San Antonio for the winter because it was "where sunshine spends the winter". That was a gray, cold winter and he died. This is what my mother told me... (I just looked online; the cemetery is Crown Hill. It's the third largest non-government cemetery in the country.)
Note: The brother referred to above was Orin Brown McCarty
