Orpha Stowers

"copy of an affidavit from Thomas Farr for Orpha Stowers for her widow's pension. He gives her maiden name as Bruce. She gets her pension plus some land. This may be quite a story. She buys some slaves who are the same ages as the Jerry Bruce family who are living next door to her in the 1870 Fulton County Georgia census. This family is labeled as black. Orpha and her daughters all get pale. Of course by the time there descendents, my ancestors, get to Oklahoma they are all part Indian. If you want these papers send me your snail mail address. If you ever find find Orpha's parents let me know."

In the 1860 Census there is a William Bruce living near the Tumblins- this could be a brother to Orpha- and how Nancy met John Tumblin.

1878 Directory address is R 163 and living with daughter Martha Harrell (wd).
