Dayton Wallace, 94, of Amarillo, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at his home with family at his side. He was born on April 8, 1922 to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace in Greenville, Texas.

He served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a gunner. On June 17, 1942 he married the love of his life, Sara Etta Scott and they were happily married for 74 wonderful years before his passing. Dayton and Etta had been residents of Pampa since 1959 after moving from Borger. Only recently had they moved to Amarillo to live with their daughter and son-in-law. Dayton loved his work as a contract pumper in the oilfield and finally retired at the age of 74. He enjoyed cars of all kind, liked to bowl and took great pleasure in walking regardless of rain, snow or sunshine.

Dayton is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lorene Stephens and 5 brothers, Bill Wallace, Carl Wallace, Duval Wallace, Roy Gene Wallace and Sammy Lynn Wallace.

His survivors include his wife, Etta Wallace of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Brenda Wilkerson and husband Dick of Amarillo, Carolyn Schutte of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Grace Berg of Hermitage, TN; 2 grandchildren, Mandie McMahon and husband Bo, Christopher Mortimer and fiancé Christy and 2 great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Bryson.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with interment following in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
