About Oscar William Bryan
Onetime Justice of the Peace Oscar Bryan died Sunday of cancer at Sunrise Hospital despite emergency blood transfusions. The 52-year-old lawyer was defeted in his bid for a second term nomination in the primary election last year and he was ultimately succeeded by Myron Leavitt. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1908, Mr. Bryan attended school in Bear Lake County, Ida. and Rock Springs, Wyo. and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1928. At University of Nevada he was active in campus life, starred as a debater and was a member of the Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity. Following his graduation in 1932 he went to Washington D.C. and held the job of purchasing agent for the U.S. Department of Agriculture while attending Georgetown University School of Law and National University Law School from which he received his L.L. B. degree in 1940. Mr. Bryan had practiced alw in Las Vegas ince his admission to the Nevada State Bar and had taken an active part in all forms of community life. He served as deputy district attorney of Clark County in 1946, had been secretary of the Clark County Bar Association. He was also a member of the Clark County Chamber of Commerce and the Nevada State and American Bar Association. Taking an active interest in layman's work of the Episcopal Church he had served as State Chancellor. He is survived by his widow Evelyn, sons Richard, 23, and Paul, 16, and Kathleen, 11, and a stepson, Michael, and his mother Mrs. Charles Armstrong. He also left a sister, Eleanor Dase, and a brother, George Bryan, of Ogden, Utah. Funeral Services are scheduled Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in Las Vegas.
