Oskar Kreisky

Oskar Kreisky and his wife Lucie were employed by Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School, Hawthorne, NY, as Cottage Parents for about 25-30 adolescent boys, of which I was one, circa 1945-1948. As I recall, Oskar and Lucie, who had come to the US from Vienna, Austria, were kind, gentle, loving, people who made a real home for us in Cottage 15 at HCKS.

It was from Oskar and Lucie Kreisky that I acquired a lifelong love for classical music. They played their recordings of the great symphonies and baroque masterpieces for us on a windup, Victrola record player every day, and there was no television to distract us from the beauty of the music. I was only 12-years-old when I left Hawthorne and didn't know how to stay in touch with these wonderful people, although I have often wished I had. Sighhh...
