About Osman Crabbe

Will

In the name of God amen. I Osman Crabb of the parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland in Virginia being very weak in body but of sound & perfect sence & memory do hereby mak my last will & testamt in manner & form following, Imprimis I give & bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator trusting through the ... death & passion of my ever blessed saviour Jesus Christ and his intercepion that hte same shall be reunited to my body at the generall resurrection & glorified and my will is my body have christian buriall and as touching such temporal estate as God in his mercy farr beyond my deserts of mine hath bestowed on me I give devise & dispose of the same together with my lands in the foll manner & form-Item I will that all my just debts be truely & honestly paid as soon as comencingly may be after my decease.- Item I give & bequeath to my sons OSMAN CRABB & GERRARD CRABB all that my plantatcon & lands lying in the forrest of Nominy which I purchased of HENRY ASHTON gent to be equally divided between them and their hiers forever. Item I give & bequeath all & singular my personall estate of what nature or kind soever to my sons DANIEL CRABB, JNO CRABB, OSMAN CRABB & GERRARD CRABB & my daughter LETTICE CRABB to be equally divided between & amongst them to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I nominate and appoint my loving wife SARAH CRABB my whole & sole Extx of this my last will and Testament and do also appoint my brother Law THOMAS SORRELL trustee to se this my will performed in ...whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seale this twenty fifth day of January Anno Dom 1719-Osman Crabb (seal) sealed & delivered in the presence of William Lane, Henry Staitsman-Tho. Sorrell.

At a court held for the said County the 24th day of Febry 1719--The last will & testament of Osman Crabb dece was presented into court by Sarah Crabb his Extx who made oathe hereto and beoing proved by the oaths of Wm. Lane & Henry Staitsman two of the wittnesses thereto is admitted to record and upon the motion of the said Extx and her performing what is usual in such cases certificate is granted her for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form.[1]

Brother-in-law, Thomas Sorrell was named in the 1719 will. Thomas was a son-in-law of Daniel Ocanny. Gerrard Hutt, a step-brother, received land in Nominy in the 1719 will. A Thomas Crabb b. after the 1719 will, sold land in Westmoreland Co., Va., in 1745. The 1738 will of Daniel Crabb mentions no wife or children but does refer to brothers, Thomas, John, and Osmond (and Osmond's son Gerrard); sister, Lettice; and mother, Sarah Dunbar.

The 1740 rent roll for Cople Parish, Westmoreland Co., Va., listed Daniel Crab's executors, 227A, John Crab 154A, and Osborn Crab 154A. Allied families on the same rent roll were Robert Middleton 450A, Robert Middleton 325A, Benedict Middleton 150A, Thomas Middleton 106A, Benj. Middleton 200A, Gerrard Hutt 600A, John Garner 100A, John Garner 100A, Joseph Garner 200A, Archibald Garner 100A, Marche Garner 150A, Wm. Rust 300a, Peter Rust 150a, and John Sorrell 832A (Eaton p10). Osmond was a Lt. In the county militia. An Osmun Crabb in 1719 of Westmoreland co. left a parcel of old books (Va. Hist. Mag.). The will of Daniel Ocanny, planter, d. 1/30/1716 will pro. Westmoreland co., Va., mentioned gr. sons Daniel Crabb, John Crabb, son-in-law Thomas Sorrel, with ex. - gr. son Daniel Crabb who was to inherit land if John Crabb died without issue. The will of Gerrard McKenney d. 11/30/1784 will pro. Westmoreland Co., Va., mentioned children - Lettice Porter, Gerrard, Diana, Daty, Sarah, and Armstrong McKenney. A Daniel Crabb was in Westmoreland, King George Co., Va., in 1740. A Daniel Crabb m. 1789 Francis Burgess Smith.
