Otto I von Dorgelo

From 1415 - 1421 Otto was drost of Vechta, now located in the southern part of the Oldenburg country: He married Richarda von Pennethe. From this marriage a son Johann von Dorgelo is known (1415 and 1446).

A drost or craft lord (Amtmann) was an official who represented the lord in a certain part of his territory. He was primarily responsible for the collection of taxes and re-services owed to the sovereign and for the administration of justice. The drost was chairman of the court of justice and as such acted as a public prosecutor and executor of the judgment.
