Otto Frederick Keister obituary
Otto Keister, 88, long time Valley City community resident, died in a Valley City hospital Saturday afternoon.
Otto Keister was born 26 November 1884 in Fond-du-Lac, Wisc., the son of Fred and August (Woller) Keister. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and received his education there.
As a young man he came to the Rogers community. He worked on farms there. He married Margie Howlett, 16 March 1921 in Valley City. They farmed near Rogers until the fall of 1945 when they moved to Valley City. Margie died 12 March 1951.
After moving to Valley City, Otto worked as custodian of Epworth Methodist Church and was in charge of Hillside Cemetery before retiring. He was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Eldred of West Lind, Oregon, James of Pasco, Washington, two daughters, Mrs. Freemon (Myrtle) Undem of Rogers, and Mrs. Gerald (Rosetta) Taylor of Pomona, California; two brothers, Henry of Pomona, California; and Louis of Los Angeles, California; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a grandson, four brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. from Oliver's Chapel with Rev. Grant Carlson officiating. Pallbearers will be Ralph Bartz, Willard Carlson, Ernest Schilling, Torwell Undem, Walter Kranz and Morley Lynch. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements are by Oliver's Chapel.
