FORT STEVENS SOLDIER DIES WHILE SWIMMING

Funeral services for William A Kilmer, 27, were held from the Zion Mennonite church at 2 p. m. yesterday, with the Ringo funeral service in charge.

Kilmer died Saturday while swimming in Coffenbury lake, near Fort Stevens. He was a private in Battery G, 247th Coast Artillery at Fort Stevens. He and several companions had been lying in the sun on the bank of the lake, and when Kilmer got into the water he suddenly collapsed. The fort physician said it was uncertain whether he died of heart failure or drowning.

He was the son of J D Kilmer of Halfway and the brother of Violet Gooderham of Sweet Home.
