About Parker W. Lane
NEW VINEYARD – Parker W. Lane, 70, of New Vineyard, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born, July 29, 1935, in New Sharon, a son of Parker G. and Zoedella (Greenough) Lane. He attended school in New Sharon.
On July 3, 1955, he married, June Kershner. He worked with his parents on their farm in New Sharon and later on a farm he purchased with his wife in Farmington which they named, Shady Lane Farm. They carried on with the Shady Lane Farm name when they moved to New Vineyard in 1977.
Besides his work on the farm, he also worked at Farmington Shoe, construction for E.L. Vining & Son and carpentry work in surrounding towns.
He was very involved in Franklin County 4-H, especially the beef club, working steer club and was a founding member of the Souie-Souie Club. He was also a member of the National Farmer’s Organization. He exhibited every type of agricultural animal at local fairs and in 1989, along with the help of his family, founded, Lane’s Barnyard Friends.
His hobbies included draft horses, oxen and woodworking which included many gifts for family and friends and many 4-H trophies that were awarded to various exhibitors. His greatest pleasure came with time spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, June of New Vineyard; four sons, Michael Lane of New Vineyard, Martin Lane, and his wife, Rebekah, of New Vineyard, Ernest Lane, and his wife, Melinda, of New Vineyard and Floyd Arthur “Arty” Lane, and his wife, Tammy, of Anson; two daughters, Cheryl Sillanpaa, and her significant other, Andrew Phillips Jr., of Phillips and Gail Orr, and her significant other, Mark Stone, of New Vineyard; a sister, Faye Redlevske, and her husband, Hermon, of Mercer; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; three half-brothers, Lester, Clifford and Chester Brann; a sister, Della Eller, and her husband, Joseph; and a son-in-law, Niilo Sillanpaa Jr.
