Patricia Lu Arledge-Loonie, age 50, of New Canaan, CT died Friday October 12, 2012 at Stamford Hospital after a courageous struggle with leukemia. Born in White Plains, NY on August 4, 1962, Patty was the loving wife of Robert J. Loonie of New Canaan, and the adoring mother of Parker and Tate. She was the daughter of Joan Spring of Sarasota, FL and the late Roone P. Arledge.

Patty graduated from Brown University with a degree in history in 1984. She worked as an Emmy Award winning television producer for many years, in Los Angeles and New York, before marrying Bob on June 21, 1997. They moved to New Canaan in 2002, where Patty was an active and enthusiastic volunteer in her children’s schools. A devoted wife and nurturing mother, she will be deeply missed by her enormous circle of friends and always remembered for her kind and loving spirit, her other worldly inner strength and courage, and her grace. Bob was at her side when she died.

In addition to her mother, husband, and children, Patty is survived by her sisters Betsey Arledge of New York City and Susan Arledge of Brookline, MA; her brother Roone Arledge and his wife Christina of Long Boat Key, FL; her sister in law Jean and her husband Tom Macmillan of Knoxville, TN; and three nephews and four nieces. The family will receive friends on Friday October 19, from 4 to 7 PM at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at St Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge Rd, New Canaan, CT 06840 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be private.

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Patricia Lu Arledge-Loonie of New Canaan died Oct. 12 at Stamford Hospital after a battle with leukemia with her husband, Bob, at her side. She was 50.

A producer for "Dateline NBC," Arledge-Loonie won an Emmy Award in 1993 for her work covering a wave of fires that hit Malibu, Calif., that year.

Born Aug. 4, 1962, in White Plains, N.Y., she was the daughter of Joan Spring of Sarasota, Fla., and the late Roone P. Arledge, former chairman of ABC News. She graduated from Brown University with a degree in history in 1984.

Arledge-Loonie worked as a television producer in Los Angeles and New York for many years. She married Robert Loonie on June 21, 1997. In 2002, the family moved to New Canaan, where she was a volunteer in her children’s schools.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Loonie, of New Canaan; her two children, Parker and Tate; her mother, Joan Spring; two sisters, Betsey Arledge, of New York City, and Susan Arledge, of Brookline, Mass.; a brother, Roone (Christina) Arledge, of Longboat Key, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jean (Tom) Macmillan, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three nephews and four nieces.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Canaan. Burial will be private.

Weddings: Patricia Arledge, Robert Loonie Jr. Published: June 22, 1997 The New York Times

Patricia Lu Arledge, a producer in New York for Dateline NBC and a daughter of Roone Arledge, was married yesterday to Robert John Loonie Jr., a senior Treasury bond options broker for the GFI Group in New York. The Rev. Sue K. Arledge, a Presbyterian minister who is the bride's aunt, performed the ecumenical ceremony at St. Andrew's Dune Church in Southampton, N.Y.

The bride, 34, won an Emmy award in 1993 for coverage of the fires in Malibu, Calif. She graduated from Brown University.

The bride's father, who lives in New York, is the chairman of ABC News. Her mother, Joan D. Spring of Tavernier, Fla., is the founder of the Caring for the Community Foundation, which raised money to build a new hospital in Tavernier. Mr. Arledge, a former president of ABC Sports, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and of the President's Council at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

The bridegroom, 36, graduated from Hobart College. He is the son of Aileen M. Loonie of Lynchburg, Va., and the late Mr. Loonie Sr., who retired as the national institutional sales manager for DuPont Walston & Company, an investment banking concern in New York.
