About Patricia Ann Olive

Patricia A. Olive, involved in education

Patricia A. Olive, affectionately known as “Patti” by her friends and family, 77, of Ocean View, formerly of Great Kills, Staten Island, N.Y., passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md.

Patti was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 30, 1941, daughter of the late James Dyer and the late Kathleen B. (Gallagher) Dyer. Her father died at a young age and her mother met and married James Norris, who raised her and her siblings. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Brooklyn.

Shortly after high school, she began working for Equitable Life as a stenographer, where she met her future husband, Charles E. Olive. She then worked for Solomon Brothers before she started her family. Patti was a dedicated wife and mother who stayed home to raise her children. After her youngest child started college at the University of West Virginia, she then worked as a home loan officer for Transamerica.

Patti was heavily involved in her children’s education as she participated in the PTA at PS32 and was the co-president of the PTA of IS75 schools in Staten Island. She was also an integral part of creating the religious education curriculum in her parish, Holy Child in Eltingville, N.Y. After retiring to Delaware 16 years ago, she became a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, and was also a member of the Millsboro Art League and the Ocean City Art League, where she enjoyed painting with oil and watercolor. Patti also loved playing Mahjong, where she built lasting friendships.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Dyer; her mother, Kathleen B. Norris and her stepfather, James Norris. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles “Charlie” E. Olive; three children, Charles “Chuck” E. Olive and his wife Laurie of Woodstock, Md., Michelle Cutick and her husband Brian of Ellicott City, Md., and Kerri Levy and her husband Erik of Ocean View; and seven grandchildren, Brendan Cutick, Kathleen Olive, Sean Cutick, Carleigh Olive, Aidan Levy, Brianna Levy and Jonny Levy. Patti is also survived by her brother, James Dyer and his wife Judy of Corona, Calif.; and two sisters, Maureen Ickrath and her husband Hugh of Bethany Beach, and Linda McCubbin and her husband Melvin of Lewes.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 9, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 10, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
