Paul L. Modrich, Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 2015

Paul Lawrence Modrich (born June 13, 1946) is an American biochemist, James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry at Duke University and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He received a Ph.D. degree in 1973 from Stanford University and a B.S. degree in 1968 from MIT. He is known for his research on DNA mismatch repair. Modrich received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2015, jointly with Aziz Sancar and Tomas Lindahl.

Honors and awards received by Modrich include:

• 1996: General Motors Charles S. Mott Prize in Cancer Research
• 1998: Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation Medical Research Award for cancer research
• 2000 Feodor Lynen Medal
• 2005: American Cancer Society Medal of Honor
• 2015: Nobel Prize in Chemistry
• 2016: Arthur Kornberg and Paul Berg Lifetime Achievement Award in Biomedical Sciences

Modrich is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences.

Paul Modrich (Raton, New Mexico, 13. lipnja 1946.), američki znanstvenik hrvatskog podrijetla. Dobitnik je Nobelove nagrade za kemiju u 2015. godini zajedno s Azirom Sancarom i Tomasom Lindahlom, "za radove na otkrivanju načina na koji stanice obnavljaju oštećeni DNK".[1][2]

Modrich je doktorirao 1973. na Sveučilištu Stanfordu. Profesor je biokemije na Sveučilištu Dukeu u Durhanmu, u Sjevernoj Karolini.

Djed mu je bio Hrvat, a baka Crnogorka, emigrirali su iz Hrvatske u SAD. Rodom je iz Modrića kraj Zadra.[3]
