About Pauline Augusta Wilhelmine Simon, b2c3
Pauline Augusta Wilhelmina (Nita) Spilhaus was born in Lisbon, Portugal, 1878. She lost both her parents in infancy, and was raised in Liibeck, Germany. She trained at the Kunst Akademie in Munich and was a keen etcher. In 1900 she published a folio of etchings of Liibeck and lived in the artists\' colony at Dachau near Munich, where she took to painting. In 1907 she came to the Cape to stay with relations, and immediately joined SASA. Hugo Naudeand Allerley Glossopbecame her firm associates. As a German citizen she was in semi internment between 1914 and 1918, and forbidden to paint outdoors, which led her to paint flower pieces instead.
