About Pearl Marie Gabin (Tivis)
Pearl Marie Tivis Gabin, our mother quietly slipped away Thursday evening, June 25. We will miss her constant and loving presence. She was the devoted daughter of George and Rose Davis Tivis and loving stepdaughter of Florence Weiss Tivis. The beloved wife of the late Max Gabin, Pearl is survived by her children, Vickie Gabin (Paul Steiner), of Sante Fe, N.M., Jill Gabin, of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Mark Gabin, of Erie. She is also survived by her brother, Seymour Tivis (Bess), brother-in-law Harold Gabin (Bea), sister-in-law Thelma Gabin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pearl graduated from Academy High School, and was an active member of Congregation B'rith Sholom, always willing to volunteer her time for a good cause. She was a homemaker whose hobbies included playing a mean game of Scrabble, making fantastic brownies, traveling, swimming, and being a good neighbor and friend. She loved all things purple, music, and Jeopardy! We'll all miss her conversation, open mind and terrific sense of humor. She was our Pearl.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the kind and caring nurses, aides and staff members of the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, Pearl's home for the last several years. Many thanks also for the hospice care provided by the good people at the Visiting Nurse Association. Friends are invited to a graveside service at C.B.S. Cemetery, 26th and Asbury on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with Rabbi Leonard Lifshen officiating. Memorials may be made to an organization of one's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street.
