Her parents are Claude Puckett Winters, Sr. & Fannie Kate Nelms Winters. APEX - Pearl Maie Winters Smith, age 77, of Apex, died Sunday, April 13, 2003. Pearl was a nursing assistant with the Friendly Rest Home of Durham. She also was employed by Ceramic Images.

She is survived by one son, Melvin Rudy and wife, Alma Lee, of Fuquay; one daughter, Claudia Horton and husband, Joey, of Morrisville; three sisters, Betty Carthen of Durham, Ann Rich of Fuquay, and Pat Garrett of Stem; a foster granddaughter, Nicole Leigh Honeycutt; and three god-children, Vernon Smith, Linda Sharpe, and Tommy Smith. Pearl was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Smitty Smith.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m. in the Faith Baptist Church, U.S. Hwy. 64. The Rev. Lalon Barns will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Apex Cemetery.
