(Kilde: Wikipedia)

1842 - 1854 Captain Peder Christian Holst

Staff captain Peder Christian Holst's intimate understanding of the military gave him a strong platform to lead and develop the Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk from 1842 through to 1854.

Holst's military career began as a cadet in 1814, when he was just 16 years old, and continued for the next 28 years (until he took the helm of the business), finishing in the position of staff captain of the 5th Battery force. During that time he held positions with the Trondheim and Bergen brigades and was appointed principal and teacher at the NCO (non-commissioned officer) school from 1828 to 1833.

In his on-going quest for further military knowledge and development, he visited a French arms factory in 1837 and, after his appointment to lead -KONGSBERG, went on further research trips to Swedish and Danish weapons manufacturers. The lessons he learnt during these trips helped underpin his efforts to build upon the initial successes of the Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk.

Holst, like his forerunners at the business, was an active participant in the contemporary political environment and became a member of parliament a total of four times - for Smålenene in 1839 and 1842 and representing Kongsberg in 1848 and 1851.

Holst passed away on 14 December 1873 in Moss, Norway. (Kilde: Kongsberg våpenfabrikk
