Pedro Benet, Il

Pedro Benet b. abt 1768 in San Felipe, Minorca, the son of Pedro Benet (Beneto, Baneto) and Francisca Mireto (Mirato). He ran away from home as a teenager with his brother, Estevan. Estevan settled in St. Augustine. Pedro went to Cuba, joined the Spanish Navy, rose to the rank of Post Captain and was assassinated in Havana after 1796. He had a son who became a professor at the University and a daughter who married in Spain and was the "reigning beauty of Cadiz".
