DAVIS, THE SETTLERS OF SALEM, WEST VIRGINIA, by Susie Davis Nicholson, Salem, West Virginia, 1992. p. 21, 42, 47
Near Pardee, Atchison county, Kansas, Permilla Davis, wife of John Davis. This aged pilgrim was born in West Virginia, Jan. 26th, 1803, and died June 16th, 1879, in the 77th year of her age. With her husband she made many changes, living in several States between her native State and Kansas. Her acquaintances were numerous, and all speak of her as being a good woman, leading an exemplary Christian life. She lived in this vicinity, holding membership in the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Pardee, for several years. Her last sickness continued about four weeks. Part of the time her sufferings were severe. She bore them without a murmur, and quietly sank to rest without a particle of gloom or the shadow of a doubt concerning her future. She trusted Christ, and he gave her joy in prospect of death. She longed to leave this tenement of clay, and enjoy the reward of the Christian in other realms than this. S. R. W.
