Winona Daily Republican, 7 October 1895:
This morning at 9 o'clock Peter Czapiewski and John Arndt were brought into court to receive their sentences. Czapeiwski is the man who was caught while breaking into Ewald's shoe store some time ago and was convicted of burglary in the third degree. He stated that he was a painter by trade, was born in Winona and has to support his mother. His sentence was one year at Stillwater at hard labor.

BADLY HURT IN SAND PIT. PETER CZAPIEW8KI 18 PROBABLY FATALLY INJURED. la Burled Under a Falling Mas* of Frozen Sand and Rendered Unconscious—. A serious accident occurred this morning in the sand pit across tbe river on the Island^ by which Peter Czaplewski was badly Injured. He was immediately brought to this city and given medical attention, but it is feared that the Injuries may prove fatal. Czaplewski was engaged In hauling sand for one of the city draymen and was at work with a number of others in the sand pit.
