Peter Henry Christiansen, 87, Duluth, died August 7, 2007 in St. Marys Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born Peter Henry Bushmann Kristiansen on July 12, 1920, in Sortland, Norway, which is located in the Vesteralen Islands off the coast of Norway, 200 miles North of the Artic Circle. His parents were Ludwig and Alvina Erickson Christiansen. The family emigrated to Duluth in 1926. Peter had attended Denfeld High School and later worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps on the Gunflint Trail. Peter was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on board the USS Acree in the South Pacific. He married Phyllis Zylka in Duluth on December 14, 1944. Peter had worked at Duluth Brewing and Malting Company and later for the State of Minnesota Grain Inspection Division, retiring in 1982 as an Inspector. He enjoyed working with his hands, keeping busy and the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins. Peter is preceded in death by his parents; son Peter; sister Borgny Christenson; brother Lief Erickson and uncle Peter Fagerwold. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis; children Pamela (Ron) Cope, Duluth, Peggy Crider, Richfield, Minn., Terry Christiansen, Duluth, Alan (Nancy) Christiansen, Proctor, Kelly (Debra) Christiansen, Duluth; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL GATHERING: 2-4 p.m. Saturday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.
