About Peter Lucas
Milkseller, Allostock, Cheshire
After marriage to Hannah Henshaw in 1827, Peter lived as a tenant farmer at Brook House Farm, Adlington, Cheshire, until 1833. See https://doc.cheshireeast.gov.uk/NorthgatePublicDocs/07871066.pdf for more information about the farmhouse.
Peter's first marriage to Hannah Henshaw ended when she died in 1832, leaving two young daughters and a son.
Second marriage to Hannah Broadhurst, in Salford, in 1836. Hannah Broadhurst gave birth to a daughter, Ellen Broadhurst Lucas in late 1837, and died in early 1839. In the 1841 Census, 3-year-old Ellen Lucas is noted as living with her widowed grandmother Ellen Broadhurst and aunt Ann Broadhurst in Prestbury, Cheshire.
Marriage allegation for third marriage to Emily Malbon (see Sources) in June 1839 shows that Peter Lucas was then a widower.
From: Staffordshire Gazette and County Standard - Saturday 01 June 1839
Marriages: May 26, at Astbury, by the Rev. John Hughes, M.A., Mr. Peter Lucas, of Salford, Manchester, to Emilia, fourth daughter of John Malbon, Esq., Dane Bank, Congleton.
In 1851 the Lucases were living in Hulme, Manchester in a street that no longer exists. In 1855 there was a case at the Court of Chancery in which several of the Congleton Malbon family were involved. In the 1861 census Peter Lucas appears as a "Farmer". Could the Lucas family have reached some prosperity through this court case?
