ERICKSON, Peder: WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Viroqua, Bad Ax County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Farmer. Age 22. Unmarried. Brown eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, 5’9”. Enlisted for three years on 16 Dec 1861 in La Crosse County. Mustered 20 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Musician. Private. Missing from a train 20 Sep 1863 at Dug Gap, Georgia, and found to have been taken prisoner. Died of his wounds in Libby Prison at Richmond, Virginia, on 1 Dec 1863. Buried in Richmond National Cemetery. The Fifteenth Regiment was recruited mostly from the Scandanavian population of the State, and was organized at Camp Randall, Madison, its muster into the United States service completed on the 14th of February, 1862, and it left the State for St. Louis on the 2d of March. On the 20th of July, the 15th proceeded to Jacinto, where they were assigned to Colonel Carlin's brigade, of General Jeff. C. Davis' division, reaching Florence, Ala., on the 24th of August.
