About Pg Maharaja Lela Ong Sum Ping @ Huáng Sēnpíng

Huang Senping (traditional Chinese: 黃森屏), better known as Ong Sum Ping, (Ming Dynasty), who married Princess Ratna Dewi (Puteri Ratna Dewi), daughter of Sultan Muhammad Shah of Brunei, and was granted the nobility title of Pengiran Maharaja Lela and elected Chief of Kinabatangan [1][1]

During the reign of Brunei's third ruler, Sultan Sharif Ali, Huang Senping led the Chinese community and built a stone fortress (at present-day Kota Batu) [2]. He led an expedition to Sabah via the Sulu Sea. This expedition sailed upriver to what is now known as Kinabatangan and made a settlement there but so far no archaeological evidence to identify the settlement. "Kina batangan" could mean "Chinese Strip". "Kina" (kee-na) is used by Kadazan Dusun which similar to "Cina" (chee-na) used by Malay which refer the Chinese.

According to the Chinese traveller, Wang Cho Lu, the tomb of Huang Senping was buried on a hill located about 2 km from the Brunei capital and there were Chinese inscriptions 黄总兵之墓 on the tombstone which meant 'Tomb of Commander Huang'.[3]

In Brunei capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, there is a street named after him, Jalan Ong Sum Ping. The only street in Brunei with a Chinese name.

The Brunei Museum has collection of his personal belongings which seldom display to the public.
