About Phebe Alta Wilcox, Died young

Phebe Alta was born to Joseph and Ermina Hiatt Wilcox, the 7th of eleven children. The family had moved to Logan because of a good job for Joseph and here Phebe Alta joined the family. To continue the story, I quote from the Samuel Allen Wilcox Family Bulletin 1971, number 27, page 3: "About this time Joseph received word of a good job in Logan--one where he could be out-of-doors. A beautiful little daughter, Phebe Alta, was born to them here. He was just becoming well established in his work and the children were beginning to get some schooling when he received word that his father and mother, who were living in Cedar Fort, needed help. His father was not in good health. So Joseph and Miny pulled up stakes and went to see what they could do to help.

"Their eighth child, a son, Lewis Carlyle, was born in Cedar Fort shortly after they arrived [8 February 1898]. Sorrow came to their lives soon after this. Their little daughter, Phebe Alta, who, because of her brightness and sweet winning ways, was a joy to the whole family, died of a fever 1 April 1898, just 7 days before the death of Joseph's father.

"Joseph loved his little daughter very much and prayed hard for her recovery. It was made manifest to him that the Lord needed her bright spirit and that he should give up asking her to live. This was a strong testimony to him all his life that our Heavenly Father lives and is mindful of us. The doctor later told them that the child wold never have recovered from the effects of the high fever."

No record of her burial in this cemetery has yet been found, but since she died so close to her grandfather, Samuel Allen Wilcox, she was most likely buried close by. Please inform me of any proof or documentation.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 17 2021, 14:49:16 UTC
