About Phil Roy
From https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205519887#view-photo=199321012
Philip was born Philip Cohen, a son of Jacob and Sarah (Adelson) Cohen, Russian Jewish immigrants, in New York. He legally changed his name to Philip Roy for his juggling and pantomime Vaudeville act, named Roy and Arthur, with his brother Adolf Cohen (ROY ARTHUR). Philip was twice married, his first wife died apparently shortly after they married. In 1917, he married his second wife, Dorothy (Dotty) Teitelbaum, a Hungarian Jew from The Bronx who bore him two children, a daughter Marion and a son, Jacob (Jack) Cohen, who shared his father's birthday. Marion married Solomon Garfinkel in 1943. Philip's son Jack Cohen, went into comedy and changed his name to Jack Roy. Finding little success, he quit comedy when he married, and took a job selling aluminum siding. He returned to comedy about 1962, and found his success a few years later after appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show as Rodney Dangerfield in 1967. Philip, never the family man, lived in a Manhattan apartment away from his family, but he did give financial support. He left show business after the death of Vaudeville and found some success as a stock broker in Manhattan. He eventually followed his brother to California and when he retired, he moved to Miami, Florida where he died in 1971.
