Was the seventh in a family of eight-Immigrated to the USA with parents 1852. Came to USA 3 yrs 9 months of age when arriving in St. Louis, Missouri settling in Union, Missouri. Was a young teenager during the Cvil war
Was a blacksmith for 12 yrs and was an engineer.
In 1879 at 30 yrs of age had a grocery store at Broadway and Stein St. Carondelet area of St. Louis, Missouri.
1884 purchased the Hoffmeister Soap works located at Luxemburg, Missouri now called Lemay, Missouri. The plant burned down, he rebuilt and named it the Excelsior Soap Co. disposed of it in 1889.
Philip Jacob Julius then rentered the grocery business for three years, then entered into the employ of Liquid Carbonic as an engineer. Stayed until retirement in 1916
