Hon. / Col. Philip Lightfoot I & Alice Corbin were the parents of: 1) William Lightfoot; 2) John Lightfoot; 3) Francis Likghtfoot; 4) Philip W. Lightfoot II.


The Honorable Phillip Lightfoot "of Sandy Point" Charles City Co., Va., was also known as "The Merchant Prince" who amassed a sizeable fortune through the wise investment of his inheritance from his father Philip Lightfoot, Sr. In 1707, he was appointed the Clerk of York Co and moved to Yorktown where he built and resided in the Lightfoot Mansion located on a high bluff that commanded the port there. His influence in early Colonial Virginia were substantial.

  • (2) William Lightfoot d 10 Jun 1768, at the home he inherited the old Lightfoot property "Teddington", Sandy Point, Charles City Co., Va., he was known as the the King's Counselor, left a large family. Married Mildred Howell.
  • (3) John Lightfoot died at about age 26, bef Nov 1751 St. Andrew's Parish, Brunwick, no children but a wife & left his property to his brothers William & ARmistead and the children of his 1/2 brother, Nathaniel Bacon Burwell dec'd. Married Mary Clack.
  • (4)Armistead Lightfoot died 1771 at Yorktown, hopelessly in debt. Married Anne Burwell. Left an only daughter Mary who married John Tayloe Griffin

The ones claiming Lightfoot direct to Capt -Justice of Peace of Pamaunky Neck deed work and Eutaw AL deed work and Barbados St Matthew Parish were agreed that the descendnats of Martha Dorsey Light foot and Sallie Savigne Lightfoot were at the same cousin distances and as did those who claimed Namcy Adair and on the same segment.

  • The dad of Capt John Lightfoot who had children mentioned on the Charlestown estate papers: George and William got the mention. Girls Dorcas and Nancy enrolled in Reservation Rolls in 1819. Sisters Sallie Lott and Martha Dorsey have oral history for 200 years passed down from this line.
