About Phillip Holbrook Nicklin

Mr. Nicklin was a native of Staffordshire, England; came to this country about 1786 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he entered into mercantile pursuits. In 1786 he became a contributor to the Pennsylvania Hospital, and was treasurer of the society of St. George from 1797 to 1799, in which latter year he was elected vice-president, and continued to hold that office until his death.

Mr. Nicklin died November 1, 1806 in his 47th year and was buried in St. Peter's Burying-ground, but no stone marks his grave. He was married April 1, 1793 by Bishop White to Julianna, daughter of Chief Justice Chew, and was the father of Mrs. George Mifflin Dallas, and of Philip Holbrook Nicklin, author of, "A pleasant peregrination through the prettiest parts of Pennsylvania ", signing himself "Peregrin Polinix".

Departed this life, on Sunday last, in the 47th year of his age, Philip Nicklin, merchant of this city. He was son-in-law to Benj'm Chew.
