About Philip Spaulding

From the Spalding Memorial, pp. 187-8:
"1955. Capt. PHILIP [698], (Philip, Jonathan, John, John, Edward), b. Nov. 22, 1755, in Plainfield, Conn.; d. Jan. 29, 1847. He had two wives. 1st, m. Thankful Waterman, June 24, 1779, in Plainfield, Conn.; she was b. Oct. 30, 1760, and d. Jan 22, 1821; 2nd, m. Dorcas Baker, 1823; she was the widow of Dr. Oliver Baker, of Chesterfield, N.H. His farm in Plainfield, N.H., adjoined that of his brother Champion. He was captain of a trainband for several years, and an officer in the Revolutionary army, and a pensioner. He lived and died on the same farm, was a man of influence, and a wise counsellor. Philip Spalding served in the war of the Revolution as a private in Capt. Andrew Backus' Co.; marched from the town of Plainfield, in the "Lexington Alarm," April, 1775; serving seventeen days. He was a private in Capt. Waterman Clift's Co., Col. Samuel H. Parson's Regt.; enlisted May 9, 1775; discharged Dec. 15, 1775. He was a private in Capt. John Dixon's Co., Col. Comfort Sage's Regt., 1776. He was also a Sergeant in Capt. Daniel Clarke's Co., Col. Jonathan Latimer's Regt.; attached Aug. 24, 1777; discharged Oct. 30, 1777. He drew his pension in Sullivan Co., NH." All the children, except the oldest one, were b. in Plainfield.
