Philip William Cole (1884-1964) was born in St Leonards and trained in Hastings, as well as the Royal College of Art. He became an ARA and was Principal of the Hastings School of Art from 1914; he lived at Fairlight. His work included both paintings and stained glass, the latter of which, as a long-time member of the Art Workers Guild, he often made himself. He worked with the architect J L Denman.
