Phillip Goodbread Sr. - American Patriot Birth 23 Nov 1726-1811 B.Nordheim, Württemberg, Germany
SGTPhillip Gutbrodt came with his parents to America on the ship SAMUEL, arriving in Philadelphia 16 Aug. 1731.
Phillip fought in the American Revolution, as evidenced by pay voucher which shows he served as Sgt. from 30 Oct. to 30 Dec. 1777 in Capt. Robert Porter's Company "G" under Brigadier General Rutherford. For his service he was paid 6 Lbs, 17 Shillings and 6 Pence. (GS #37119969, NC State Archives). He again served in 1781, according to a list of Rev. War Pay Vouchers in the NC Archives.
Three of his sons (Philip Jr, John and Thomas) are named in a list of Rutherford Co, NC men who fought as Loyalists at the Battle of Kings Mountain in October, 1780.
