From The New Yorker, Dec.17, 2018, "Julia Louis-Dreyfus Acts Out" By Ariel Levy
Julia’s grandfather Pierre Louis-Dreyfus cut a romantic figure in Paris. He drove a race car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He knew Charles de Gaulle. As a ball-turret gunner for the Resistance, he flew eighty-one missions over the Western Front. After the war, he and his brothers ran the family’s company: an international dynasty encompassing shipping, banking, and agricultural commodities. Pierre, who was Jewish, married a Catholic woman of Mexican descent, but the marriage didn’t last, and she moved to the United States with their children, Gérard and Dominique. He had two more with his second wife, and lived to be a hundred and two.
