About Pierre Leon Rouleau
In a letter from Marie Jeanne (Mary Jane) Rouleau's grand-daughter written
to my parents Wilfred and Genevieve Rouleau Jan 1986.. this is what Florita wrote
about her grandmother:
I have been so interested in knowing some of the relatives from Chippewa because this
is where my dear grandmother and her one sister and many brothers were born.
My grandmother was Marie Jeane Rouleau (Mary Jane) born June 9,1870. the oldest boy,
Honore was the only one born at Lotbiniere,Canada April 7 1865. The second son was born May 5, 1866 and he was born in Chippewa Falls. So, it was between these two dates
that my great-great grandfather Pierre Leon Rouleau came to the U.S.I don't remember much about the early times for them, but I do remember that my grandmother and her brothers had to walk through the woods to school, and her father and brothers were woodsmen. Her father and mother were educated in Canada and had learned to read french and latin, and her grandfather had studied for the priesthood berfore he decided to marry and then taught school at St Henri of Levis, Lotbiniere, St Isidore, Dorchester county he was married to Rose Blais. His children were:
Mathilda, Marie-anges, Nathalie, who became Sister St Nazaire of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal, Honore', young Joseph who died at an early age, Marie-Adelin, Appoline, young Sarah, death at 4 years old, Venerance.
My great grandfather wa Pierre Leon Rouleau married to Emilie Ludivine Vaillancourt, and they moved to Chippewa Falls,WI about 1866. This is where my grandmother wasborn. Sher married Jacques, July 31,1888. They moved to St. Paul, MN. My grandmother was left with four children to support the best way she coul. Her older brother Remi had gone to North Dakota to homestead, and he persuaded her to come ther to take up a homestead.
