About Pieter Dirk Vreede
Pieter Dirk Vreede was manager of the Panggoongrejo plantation and sugar factory in Malang, East Java.
Here's a history of the company (translated by Google from Malaisian):

A detailed report describes (in German Fraktur) the installation of a cable car by the company, to cross a local river between ridges - much more economical than a bridge in connecting fields and factory:

which led to this report showing the end station at the factory:

Pieter and his wife Ina travelled to Australia and New Zealand in 1916 (together with a F Vreede whom I can't immediately place), visiting their friends the Griffiths family both coming:

and before returning to Java:

The family arrived in the Netherlands in 1919, with adopted daughter Maisie

traveling on the Holland-America liner "Noordam"

The family returned to the Far East and went travelling to Australia, returning in 1923.
They appear on a passenger list departing Sydney returning to Java, 21 March of that year

And the three of them leaving for London on 19 January 1924:

In 1924 they moved to The Hague, initially a hotel, then Statenlaan 116.

and had pictures taken at Atelier Merkelbach in Amsterdam (see Media).
Pieter was staying in Sint-Genesius-Rode, south of Brussels, Belgium where he presumably became ill before passing away in neighbouring Uccle in 1936. (See death act under Documents)
Many thanks to family friend Nancy Vada Gibb for much appreciated information and help!
Mrs Gibb is a relative of the Griffiths family mentioned above.
