About Pietro Grossio
Accident No. 21. - John Barborich and Peter Grossio, with two others employed as trammers, were filling a car with rock at the 39th level, North of No. 7 shaft Hecla Mine, August 31st.
While they were working a large piece of vein rock fell from the hanging side of the stope, killing Barborich and injuring Grossio so badly that he died September 2nd.
Four witnesses testified that the ground in the stope was carefully examined before they started to work and thought to be safe.
An inquest was held before Coroner Sowden.
The verdict of the jury was as follows: “We find that John Barborich came to his death by accident, on the morning of August 31st, 1898, by the falling of rock in the 39th level, North of No. 7 Shaft, Hecla Branch of the Calumet and Hecla mine."
