Polly Higson

Polly Fry, a member of the Fry's chocolate dynasty, has claimed that a DNA test proved that she was the illegitimate half-sister of Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto, the Queen's nephew and niece.

The claims were made in a new book on the photographer's life called Snowdon: The biography, by Anne de Courcy, who spent hours interviewing him.

Anthony Armstrong-Jones, who was the future Earl of Snowdon, was in the third week of his honeymoon when Polly Fry was born on May 28, 1960.

She was reportedly delivered in the same four-poster bed that Princess Margaret had slept in during visits to the Frys' home

For 44 years, Polly, who lives in Frome, Somerset, treated Jeremy Fry and Camilla Grinling as her biological parents but from the age of 18, she had been exposed to gossip that Snowdon, not Jeremy, was her real father.

With her mother dead, and Jeremy frail, she was married to businessman Barnaby Higson, with five children, when she decided to find conclusive evidence in 2004.

The book claims she approached Snowdon for a meeting and, over lunch, asked him: "Could we have a DNA test to settle things one way or another?"

After convincing a reluctant Lord Snowdon, she claimed they took swabs from the inside of their mouths.

The tests showed 'Tony' was her father, the book alleges.

To her distress, however, the news leaked and Lord Snowdon denied knowledge of any rumours or of a DNA test.

Jeremy Fry described the claim that he was not Polly's father as "utter nonsense".
