About Private First Class Kenneth Alfred Spilker

While in London his father met and married his mother in Bethnal Green and his older brother was born in Greenwich,London.His parents moved to the Moberly,MO,where Kenneth and his sisters were born.Later they moved to Quincy,IL,where he grew up.His father was a salesman for the Irwin Paper Company.After graduating from high school Kenneth worked as a milk carrier for Modern Dairy. Kenneth enlisted in the Marines 21 February 1967 at the St Louis Recruiting Office in MO. After graduating from boot camp and infantry training he went home on leave.After report- ing to his next duty station he was issued his orders for Vietnam. Kenneth arrived in Vietnam 16 August 1967 and was assigned to Hotel Company,2nd Battalion,3rd Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division.The company was on a combat patrol when they were engaged by hostile forces on the East Bank Song Yen River,4 kilometers south southeast of the Tuy Loan Bridge.During the fire fight Kenneth died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head from small arms fire. Kenneth was single and served his country for 11 months and 9 days and KIA #20799. He had been in Vietnam for 5 months and 14 days. Kenneth was 20 years,2 months and 5 days old. Survived by his parents;Harold H & Dorothy May Petley Spilker,his brother;Robert James (who served in the US Navy)and his 2 sisters; Pearl Ann and Majorie Kay Spilker all of 1100 S 20th St,Quincy,IL.
