About Pte. William John Burgess

Son of Richard Henry Burgess and Bessie (Betsey) Ferguson Burgess. Husband of Mrs Marguerite Ivy Geraldine Burgess (nee McRae, later Lorgelly), they married in 1915. Four brothers went to war: two were killed William John Burgess (61037) and George Bruckshaw Burgess (32294), the third, Edward Ernest Burgess (32299), lost a leg and the fourth Tom Burgess (6850), twin brother of George returned home uninjured. Remembered on the Ashburton War Memorial.
