About Pte. William Howard Swindley Masefield

William Howard Swindley Masefield was born in Auckland on 8 February 1896. His parents were William and Annie Masefield. He was a farmer at Ohauiti, Tauranga. He enlisted on 16 November 1915 with the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion (Service No. 12/4054). His last rank was private. He died of head and abdomen wounds in London on 14 July 1916. He was aged 20. William's older brother, Keith Howard Masefield was killed in action at the Somme, France on 3 October 1916. Source: Biography by Debbie McCauley (2014).
