Aaron James Stout served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Company A, 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment. He entered service on 22 Aug 1861 and mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, Illinois. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Fort Donelson, Tennessee in 1862. He was 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall and had dark hair, a fair complexion and hazel eyes.
