About Pvt. George Alexander McDuffie, (CSA)
History of Marion County by William Sellers, p. 319: "George Alexander, another son of Duncan, moved to Horry County, married a Miss Alford there, but moved back to the old homestead and died there."
The "Miss Alford" was Helen Victoria Alford, daughter of Meredith and Susanna Alford of Conwayboro (now Conway). Helen had been hired to teach the Neil C. McDuffie children and some other children of the area. She resided in the NC Carmichael home. His wife (unsure which one) liked her so much that she played match maker to Helen and G. A. They had one child, Susan, who sadly did not survive to adulthood. Helen was my 3rd great aunt and I heard the story from my grandmother a number of times. SFG
